"Balam-cahob"
Cancun, 2019.
In Mayan mythology one of the most revered gods was the Jaguar, whose symbolism was related to the night and its skin to the some of starry sky. Four jaguars served as important actors in the creation of the universe, holding the sky in each of the corners of the four sacred directions, each representing a cardinal point.
The ancient Maya also believed that jaguar-shaped sorcerers protected crops and fields, and until today Mayan farmers believe in their protection.
Here the four Jaguars arise creating with their own tails a nest of snakes -Cancun in Mayan language - And while this cancun grows and develops, the four jaguars will always be present taking care of and protecting it.

Inspired by two strong symbols of Portuguese popular culture, The Rooster of Barcelos and the Portuguese tiles, I created this new mural for the amazing people from Quinta do Mocho. The rooster announces the sunrise symbolizing the end of the darkness and that's a better day is about to come. It's also related to courage and wisdom.
Ah! And according do the Chinese this is the year of the Rooster :)
Muito obrigado pelo convite, Associcero e Loures Arte Pública.
Te Manaia
.
Upon our arrival in Whangarei we were welcomed by the local Māori community who shared with us their culture and beliefs, specially the importance of honoring our ancestors and keeping the connection with our roots strong in order to build a bright future for the ones to come.
Our culture is what keep us connected not only with the ones around us but also with our ancestors and ours descendants to come. And with this in mind it made sense to me to respectfully create my version of a strong Māori symbol directly related to ancestry and heritage. The Manaia.
Te Manaia is regarded as a kind deity that protects people and helps them communicate with their ancestors. It's regarded as a mythical being with a bird's head (sky), a body of a man or snake (earth) and the tail of a fish (sea), symbolizing the balance between the realms.
I depicted the Manaia in side profile as it's usually depicted in traditional carving and jewelry symbolizing its role as messenger between the earthly world of mortals and the domains of the spirits, and between ancestors and descendants.

When visiting Minas Gerias earlier in 2018 I had the pleasure of meeting the good people from the gallery Quarto Amado / Instituto Amado and they invited me to come and paint in a village up the mountais called Itataia in Ouro Branco, Brazil.
The village, home to the kindest people and the most lovely kids, is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been too. Despite the rain, the waterfalls and the woods were majestic and awe inspiring, and painting there was an experience I’ll never forget.

"Home of the Jaguars"
Wynwood, Miami 2019
By some sort of coincidence or star alignment right after finishing a mural with 4 Jaguars in Cancun and seeing jaguars everywhere (dreams included) I was about to paint a wall at Jose de Diego Middle School, a school that after the hard work and passion of the good people from Raw Project has become an amazing sort of mural museum for the local kids who study there and those visiting Wynwood.
Jose de Diego has the Jaguar as their mascot. An animal that's a strong symbol of strength, respect and resistance, which is very appropriate in a neighborhood that has changed so much in such a short period of time.
Despite all those changes in its surroundings JDD middle school is and will still be for a long time the home of the Jaguars.
After painting my wall for Fisart in Timisoara I had the opportunity of releasing this beast in Resita. Many thanks to Sergio Morariu, Ami, Dorinel, Maria & Helena, Ovidiu, Dan and everyone else who made this possible.
I had such a great time painting a serie of pieces for the lovely people from The Yard. Love you guys! Go Manchester City!!

"The Longline in between"
Longline fishing is a commercial fishing technique. It uses a long line, called the main line, with baited hooks attached at intervals by means of branch lines called snoods.
This fishing technique is quite controversial because of bycatch, fish caught while seeking another species or immature juveniles of the target species. This can cause many issues, such as the killing of many other marine animals while seeking certain commercial fish. Seabirds can be particularly vulnerable during the setting of the line.
As my work has been heavily focused on birds in the past years I decided to use a pelican as the key element of this mural. While this pelican is already trapped in the longline others are about to face the same destiny as they're getting prepared to dive into the ocean.
Besides seabirds and fish, longline fishing also victimizes other sea species such as dolphins, sharks and turtles, also depicted in the bottom of the mural getting attracted by the baited hooks.
The cables in front of the wall were incorporated to the artwork representing more fishing lines in the foreground, the heavy human intervention in the natural food chain and the consequently lack of sustainability in certain fishing techniques.
Thanks for all the support Pangeaseed and Proyecto Panorama!

In 2015 I had the pleasure of coming to MCR and painting one of the most important murals I've ever done. The Guardian of Ancoats became a landmark in Manchester but sadly this year the building was demolished. Thanks to Rob and Kath from TMLF I came back to "relocate" the Guardian painting this big fellow now nesting in Didsbury.
A very special wall, done with love under critic weather conditions. Thank you Ben Barsky for making this happen and thank you to all Manchester community for all the love. This wall got knocked down a couple of years ago but it’s still pretty much alive in my heart.
